Moncrief Cancer Institute and UT Southwestern Center for Breast Care will be holding a free mammogram event at Solis Women’s Imaging at 5858 Main St., Frisco, Texas 75034 on October 22nd from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
To qualify for a free mammogram, women must be 35 years of age or older and not had a mammogram in the past year. Additionally, women must not have a current breast-related problem. Women who meet the requirements for a free mammogram — or women whose insurance can afford one — can call 800-405-7739 to set up an appointment.
The mammograms typically take about 20 minutes, and if a woman’s screening discovers a potential medical problem, Moncrief’s staff will then begin the process of navigating that woman to a clinical breast exam, diagnosis and treatment.
The American Cancer Society recommends that women receive an annual mammogram starting at age 40, obtain an annual clinical breast exam by a healthcare professional and perform monthly breast self-exams.Breast cancer is the disease many women fear the most, and early detection and treatment can dramatically improve a woman’s chances of survival. Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death among women, exceeded only by lung cancer. If detected early – and mammography is the best way to do that – the five-year survival rate for patients is more than 90 percent.
